Kris Boyd’s epic meltdown as Celtic go 14 points clear of Rangers, with incredible Philippe Clement rant

What a Christmas it has been for Celtic and what misery for those in Rangers colours.

Celtic’s 4-0 win over St Johnstone on Sunday wasn’t broadcast on Sky Sports, but Rangers dropping points at Motherwell was.

The great thing about it all was that Kris Boyd was at Fir Park to watch the Rangers nonsense unfold, including going 2-0 down by half-time.

As Nicolas Kuhn, a Kyogo Furuhashi brace and another Daizen Maeda goal were helping Celtic to another win, Philippe Clement was racing up and down the touchline like a lost soul.

This comes days before Celtic’s showdown against Rangers at Ibrox on Thursday, where the champions have the chance to go 17 points clear.

Whatever you think of Boyd, one thing is for sure, he says it like it is and provides great drama, especially when Rangers are in free-for-all.

And that has been the case for a long time now, as the former Scotland striker’s blood pressure was at an all-time high after the Motherwell draw.

Boyd didn’t hold any punches and even stated that ‘if you are a betting man’, then there is only ‘one way’ Rangers’ game against Celtic will go, as he told Sky Sports Football (29/12/24 at 5:05 pm).

“It’s not good enough,” said Boyd about Rangers’ 2-2 draw at Motherwell. “As I said at half-time, there will be people saying ‘at least they showed some fight in the second half’.

“But for a Rangers team to come here and perform the way that they did in that first half and it’s not the first time it’s happened. 100% (agree with Rangers fans booing their own players post-match). I have never understood it (players going over to applaud away fans). For cup finals, if you win things and go a celebrate with your fans. After a league game, just get yourself down the tunnel and dust yourself down.

“You were 12 points behind Celtic coming into the game. You are now 14 points behind. You have a Glasgow derby on Thursday. I think, right now, if you are a betting man, there is only one way that is going to go. When you look at Rangers right now, there are a lot of issues on the field – the first half was a shambles, again!”

Fuming Boyd says Philippe Clement will ‘lose his job’ as Rangers manager

Celtic fans hope Clement stays in a job because, at least, he is being consistent and it would be great viewing if he was side by side with Rodgers on Thursday.

Rodgers has seen past and through many Ibrox managers – from his first spell and now on his return.

And, according to Boyd, another one is going to bite the dust, as he went into an incredible rant as to why Clement will ‘lose his job’.

“I have got an issue with sports science,” added Boyd about Clement resting key players. “I think they run too many football clubs. We can only look at it when we were players and it has got better, in terms of facilities to recover and everything.

“When I hear ‘he comes on fresh’. Cerny and Igamane. 45 minutes. 45 minutes is doing absolutely nothing for you. They came on because you needed a result. Sports science won’t get sacked. The manager will get sacked. The fans will be asking questions of the manager as to ‘why he is relying on them’. They will be looking towards this new leadership team at Rangers for decisions because it’s not enough.

“As a manager, you will lose your job off the back of it. These guys don’t care, as long as they are alright. See if the new manager comes in. They will change whatever their thoughts on sports science is to suit the new manager that comes in. They are only interested in themselves, so Clement is going to lose his job off the back of sports science and that is running Rangers football club, at this moment in time, then that’s his issue.”
