Kristoffer Ajer has a straightforward aim ahead of Celtic’s upcoming Europa League tie against Cluj at Celtic Park. He wants the team to win their home fixtures in the group stage.

The Hoops struggled at home in the group stage last season, winning only one of three home fixtures. Despite this, they were still able to reach the last 32 of the competition. However, they can’t afford to take that risk again.

“To get through this really tough group you have to win your home games” Ajer bluntly said before the game, as revealed by the Celtic Twitter account.

Winning the home games might be easier said than done though. The Hoops will no doubt find the game against Cluj tough, and the games against Rennes and Lazio will also be difficult.

Celtic might not be able to qualify from the group stages this time with only one home win from three games. That is why it is important that the rest of the team heed Ajer’s words.

A win over Cluj would give the Hoops four points from their first two games in the group stages, and that would be a more than acceptable return at the start of the group stages.

The game against Cluj should not be about revenge for the Hoops. It should be about getting the three points which kickstart the Europa League campaign.
