Celtic centre-back Kristoffer Ajer has refused to reveal exactly what Scott Brown said in the huddle yesterday.
Celtic’s 1-0 win at Rugby Park sent them eight points clear at the top of the Premiership. The result meant that the Hoops opened up a gap bigger than any they’ve managed so far this season.
In the end, it wasn’t one of Celtic’s best performances, but it didn’t have to be. Brown himself slammed home a deflected winner to ensure a monumental day in the title-race occurred.
And Ajer, speaking in the Daily Record, refused to open up on whatever it was Brown told the players before the match.
“What Broony says in the Huddle stays in the Huddle.
“But obviously we went into the game really up for it and wanting to get the three points. He was speaking all about the performance and getting the result.
“That’s Broony scored twice in a week now. He’s delighted with that but he’s such an important player for us. To score the winner like that was just like him.”
Remember when the squad apparently weren’t together?
The togetherness in the squad is clear from Ajer’s message. The players wouldn’t ever reveal what was said in something as sacred as the Celtic Huddle.
It’s times like these that make it fun to remember Kris Boyd’s claim that the Celtic dressing-room was split. These days, it certainly doesn’t look like it when you read the likes of Ajer’s post-match comments.
The Huddle has forever been a place where its discussions aren’t revealed to the outside world. That tradition appears to still be evident today, with Ajer clearly in no mood to touch on it.
Despite that, however, you can only imagine Brown was stressing the importance of a good performance and result to the players. Whilst we didn’t get the former, there’s no denying Brown’s strike ensured we were delivered the latter.
But Ajer joins a long list of his team-mates that have sung the praises of Brown in the past. The likes of Oliver Burke, Callum McGregor, and Kieran Tierney to name a few have all been full of praise for him.
And no wonder when he comes up with moments as big as yesterday.
