Kyogo Furuhashi has long been a favourite with the Celtic support but it’s fair to say he’s bringing his hero status to new levels after a superb run of form against Rangers.
The Japanese forward has scored five goals in his last three derby matches against the Ibrox side, securing Celtic points and silverware that will be celebrated by fans for a long, long-time. And he’s loving every minute.
He’s made that perfectly clear on social media this evening after scoring his latest double on Saturday, sending a message to fans on Twitter saying: “LOVE. THIS. Couldn’t be happier, thanks to every fan for supporting us! Great atmosphere!”
Kyogo’s star is only getting brighter at Celtic
Kyogo is rapidly closing in on the 30-goal mark for the Bhoys this season. His double today puts him at 28 with at least eight matches of the season left – and potentially nine.
He’s more than surpassed the exploits of his debut season, which were exciting enough. Crucially he has managed to stay largely injury-free, fit and motivated on a consistent basis. Undoubtedly he is one of the first names on Ange Postecoglou’s teamsheet right now.
The striker is also in the running for player of the year honours, both at the club and across Scottish football. There’s a strong argument that he is the most exciting and effective talent in the country right now.
His movement is at another level to everyone else and he always puts in the maximum effort on the other side of the ball, tracking back and supporting the Celtic midfield. Increasingly his finishing is improving too – and can still get even better.
He’s an infectious personality too, always playing with a smile on his face and taking time to connect with supporters after the full-time whistle. For my money, he’ll go down as one of the best-ever signings made by the club. That’s strong praise, but it’s not said without merit.
