One of the best trophy days Celtic have ever celebrated.

It was looking and feeling like it was going to end in a 1-0 defeat to European-chasing St Mirren, but then Celtic proved why they are champions.

In stoppage time, James Forrest scored his record-breaking goal to ensure Celtic’s title party had a cherry to put on top of the cake.

The Celtic Park faithful celebrated like it was the title-clinching goal because everyone knew how massive this moment was.

There aren’t many players more popular than Forrest, perhaps his skipper, or even Player of the Year Daizen Maeda, but from the supporters to the players, the one-club man is very much liked and appreciated.

That’s why, when Forrest netted to score in 16 straight league seasons for Scotland’s most successful club, he was lauded and applauded on social media.

Leigh Griffiths, Stephen Welsh, Joe Ledley and Joe Hart all played with Forrest at one point during their careers.

Of course, Welsh is still going and might be sharing the field with Celtic’s most decorated player of all time next season when he returns from his loan spell in Belgium.

Forrest’s game-changing impact against St Mirren

When Forrest was introduced into the action in the second half, Celtic were sleepwalking towards a defeat and needed an injection of life into their play.

Just like against Aberdeen in midweek, Forrest provided that pretty much straight away, and he was causing St Mirren’s backline no end of problems.

Before the 33-year-old could take to the field, Celtic had only managed to muster one shot on target, but then, the man of the moment put on a show and ended the campaign with a WhoScored rating of 7.78.
