Luke McCowan has joined the history books alongside Scottish players like Brian McClair and Kenny Dalglish with his early goal against Stuttgart.
McCowan struck within 30 seconds of kick-off in Celtic’s Europa League tie in Germany to make it 1-0 on the night, and 4-2 on aggregate.
It was the midfielder’s first goal for the Hoops in a European game and places him in a list alongside Celtic legend Harry Hood.

McCowan has often played out of position on the wing this season 🙃
It's time he was given more of a chance in his natural role. Tell me if you agree ⏬
Luke McCowan the first Scottish player to score in opening minute of European game for 35 years
That goal at the MHPArena meant that McCowan became the first Scottish player to score in the opening minute of a game since McClair did for Manchester United in 1991.
McClair scored against French side Montpellier in a European Cup Winners’ Cup tie and until McCowan, nobody else had done so since.
The 28-year-old is the latest Celtic player to do this, with the likes of Hood, Dalglish and William Wallace all managing to do so.
Those three in question were all prolific goalscorers in the green and white, and while McCowan may not be that, he has joined an illustrious list.
