Johnny Kenny was one of the many changes Celtic made during a hectic January transfer window.

Following the arrivals of Tomas Cvancara and Junior Adamu, this opened the door for Kenny to leave Celtic because he became the fourth choice striker under Martin O’Neill, after the new faces and Kelechi Iheanacho.

Bolton signed Kenny on a loan deal until the end of the season, and on Saturday, he made his debut away at promotion rivals Lincoln City.

Kenny came onto the pitch when his team were losing 1-0, before helping them earn a draw to the delight of his manager, Steven Schumacher.

Celtic loanee Johnny Kenny makes his Bolton debut against Lincoln City

It needs to be noted that Lincoln are pushing for automatic promotion to England’s second tier, and they are currently in the final automatic places.

Bolton, who are one place below them, remain six points adrift, so this was a huge game for Kenny to make his debut in.

The Republic of Ireland star played around 25 minutes, picking up a booking, and his manager stated that ‘he never gives defenders a minute’, as he told Bolton’s YouTube channel.

“They were excellent,” said Schumacher. “All four subs that came on.

“Johnny Kenny, in the 15 and 20 minutes that he had, he showed what he is all about. Speed and consistent running. He never gives defenders a minute. And he nearly created a big opportunity for Sam Dalby.

“So, pleased for them all, really. We needed those subs to make that impact because we wanted to win the game.”

Kenny’s Bolton debut in numbers

It’s going to be interesting to see how Kenny fares in England’s third tier, and what this means for his Celtic career.

You suspect that if he performs well for Bolton, then they will want to sign him again, and it wouldn’t be a surprise if the Hoops agree on such an idea.

Either way, WhoScored handed Kenny a 6.2 rating for his Bolton debut.
