Former Scottish Cup winner Mark McGhee believes that Celtic can take inspiration from Billy McNeill when it comes to facing Hearts in this year’s final.
The Hoops are set to pay tribute to their former captain by wearing number five on their shorts when they play at Hampden.
McGhee believes that Neil Lennon can use honouring McNeill’s memory as motivation to win the game.

“A positive thing”
“I think Lenny will use the tribute they are paying as a positive thing” McGhee said, as reported by the Evening Times.
“Having the privilege of being one of the guys to be allowed to run out there with that on their shorts, Lenny will be using that as a positive emotional thing.”

McGhee won the Scottish Cup twice at Celtic under McNeill’s management.
Highly motivated
Celtic will be highly motivated going into the game. The Hoops have the chance to win a third consecutive domestic treble.

Paying tribute to the memory of a club legend is another aspect that can be used as motivation. Mark McGhee certainly thinks so.
It is bound to be an emotional day at Hampden Park. Celtic will be keeping McNeill’s memory alive by wearing the number five.
Perhaps that will inspire the side to turn in a performance worthy of the great man. He won multiple Scottish Cups as player and manager. His inspiration could lead the Hoops to another cup triumph.
