BBC Sportsound pundit Michael Stewart has lauded the heroics of Celtic striker Giorgos Giakoumakis and stated that he’s “marked his arrival big time” today.

The big Greek produced his greatest performance in a Celtic jersey since his summer arrival from VVV-Venlo. Indeed, his clinical hat-trick against the Dee ensured the Hoops stretched their lead at the top of the table to 3 points.

In addition to that, Giakoumakis managed to win plenty of Celtic supporters over with his stunning display. A fine finish on the turn, a tap-in, and a powerful header made up his repertoire this afternoon, and the fans are absolutely loving it.

And it’s fair to say Giakoumakis’ impact was also admired by Stewart as he acknowledged his display when speaking on Sportsound post-match. As he discussed the Hoops’ massive 3 points today on BBC Radio Scotland [20/02, 4:57pm], Stewart said: “Credit to Celtic because they’ve managed to get themselves the 3 points. And Giorgos Giakoumakis, well he’s marked his arrival big time here today what that hat-trick because it’s 3 very important goals at different stages of the game as well.

“It was really important they got themselves back level really quickly. I think it was less than 10 minutes between Dundee going in front and Celtic getting back level. Then getting the second just before half-time, and obviously the one at the end there with not long to go to mark the winner.

“So they’re really important goals at important stages in the game as well that Giakoumakis has come up trumps for Celtic there.”

Giorgos Giakoumakis gets the job done for Celtic with scintillating performance

There’s just something about today that feels perfect. That may seem laughable considering we conceded 2 goals at home to the side sitting bottom of the Premiership. However, let’s be honest, these are the dodgy afternoons that you can sometimes get in a title race.

The kind of performances that you just can’t explain at times. When a lesser team comes to Parkhead and really makes you work harder for it than you thought would’ve been possible. But what says a lot about Ange Postecoglou’s Celtic is just how much they were up to the challenge today.

They were battering on the Dundee door throughout the second half and showed the extra glimpses of quality we needed at key times to ensure we took the points. What’s important is that we had the players available to put the game beyond the Dee.

Giakoumakis was that man. Had it not been for his clinical prowess in the final third, we would’ve been bemoaning a massive missed opportunity this afternoon. It says so much for the player’s ability and character that this was the moment he stepped up in.

You can’t help but feel delighted for Giorgos. All of a sudden, he’ll have a massive role to play in the final 11 rounds of the campaign. And supporters will be a lot more confident with him leading the line after seeing him produce an outstanding hat-trick.

There’s suddenly so much to be excited about. The truth is after Thursday night, this is exactly what the Celtic supporters needed to get the blood pumping again. And we have Giakoumakis to thank for delivering those timely goods.
