Celtic’s win against Hibs was supposed to be Martin O’Neill’s last game in interim charge.

But instead, he revealed before kick-off that he was set to remain in charge for Wednesday’s home match, with a delay to the arrival of Wilfried Nancy.

His team then stepped up with a 2-1 win at Easter Road, working hard to maintain O’Neill’s perfect record in interim charge of the Hoops.

After the game, the conversation inevitably moved on to the manager situation, as O’Neill has to discuss it every week.

He confirmed that he’s still expecting Nancy to come in, but not without leaving the Sky Sports panel in stitches.

The win lifts Celtic up to a points total just two shy of leaders Hearts, with a game in hand. It’s quite the turnaround since Brendan Rodgers’ departure.

After the game, Eilidh Barbour asked O’Neill to confirm if it would indeed be Wilfried Nancy to replace him, and O’Neill replied: “I think yes. I think that’s correct.

“There’s some paperwork, isn’t there! It’s some paperwork. I don’t know why they can’t sign a little document.”

James McFadden then asked: “It would be nice if it lasted until after the final..?”

O’Neill then joked: “Well, if they can’t find the papers that would be lovely!

“I’ve hidden them! I’ve hidden the papers.”
