Martin O’Neill was expecting to ride off into the sunset after the game against Hibernian, but it seems that he will be at Celtic for at least one more game.

O’Neill confirmed that Wilfried Nancy’s appointment had been delayed due to some ongoing paperwork issues before Celtic’s 2-1 win against Hibernian.

The 73-year-old is still in good spirits, though, but admitted to Kris Boyd that there is one thing that is grating him about the wait for Nancy to take the reins.

Martin O’Neill left ‘bored’ by Wilfried Nancy debate

Since returning to Celtic Park, O’Neill has always stressed that this would be a short-term job.

In that time, the Hoops hero has been bombarded with questions about his future and imminent replacement and it is now at the point where it is beginning to drain him.

He told Sky Sports: “I thought this was my farewell, and I have been saying farewell to the players since I arrived.

“I genuinely thought it was and thought this was going to be the last game, and then I got a call to say there is still a little bit more paperwork to be done and I was asked to see it through to Wednesday night.

“Please, I almost get embarrassingly bored by it all; this should be it.”

When will Wilfried Nancy’s first game in charge of Celtic be?

Now that we know that O’Neill will be here for Dundee, it would only be logical to presume that Nancy’s first game in charge of the Bhoys will be a big one.

After the midweek fixture, Celtic play against Hearts in a top of the table clash – a game that could decide where the league title will end up.

It would be a huge test for your first game in charge, but every game in charge of the Hoops brings pressure, so the 48-year-old may as well get used to it now.
