Matt O’Riley shares key message and tactics Ange delivered to Celtic squad before Sunday win

I have never seen such a clinical first-half performance from Celtic so far this season than what we witnessed in Ayrshire.

Netting four goals in a 27-minute spell really was something special from this team. It looked like the team could rack up a huge margin of victory at one point.

After the win, two-goal hero and Man of the Match Matt O’Riley revealed Ange Postecoglou’s message to the team before kick-off that sparked the mauling.

Speaking to BBC Sportsound, O’Riley said, “Like I said before the game I think if we tried to play the football that we knew how to play on this surface, it wouldn’t be a problem and it showed today.”

O’Riley went on to say that getting the early goal was the message that Ange Postecoglou was pressing home to his players, “One goal kind of kills their game plan in a way because they want to be tight and compact. We get two early goals and that changed everything for us.”

The midfielder stated that the set-up of the tactical battle helped, noting that the Bhoys fullbacks played their part in overrunning the Kilmarnock midfield, “Early doors it was basically three against two plus Greg [Taylor] and Ally [Johnston] coming inside so we had a massive overload. We kind of knew that will be the case before the game.”

And the game plan was executed to perfection. By the time Kilmarnock manager, Derek McInnes made his changes on the thirty-minute mark, the game was no longer a contest and the three points were heading back to Glasgow.

Celtic remain on course to win the title and with the club only requiring three more wins to make it official, (depending on how Rangers results go), the fans will be looking forward to celebrating an incredible 16th title in 23 years.

In other news, Patrick Roberts is finding his feet again after post-Celtic struggles; still loves the Bhoys.
