Sportscene duo Neil McCann and Michael Stewart have lauded the impact of David Turnbull on the Celtic midfield.

The former Motherwell man, who signed for the Bhoys earlier this season, found himself on the scoresheet again yesterday.

He’s now scored three times and assisted three more since bursting into the team.

It looks like Neil Lennon is now prepared to give him a consistent run of games.

When analysing the Celtic vs Hamilton match on Sportscene this weekend, the punditry duo on hand had plenty of great things to say about him.

They even reckon he will soon be the Bhoys’ main man.

McCann said: “I think this is a brilliant signing for Celtic. It’s taken him a little bit of time to get a starting position in the side. I think he’s the kind of player who will start to drift and control games.

“For me, he’s the new player that will replace Scott Brown. When his time comes, Turnbull is going to be one of the top men for Celtic.

Stewart would go on to add: “You can see that already. It’s only been a few games since he has got this run going. You can already see he’s starting to grow in stature, dropping a little bit deeper, picking the ball up and starting attacks.

“He’s got this great knack of just being in the right place at the right time, which all good players do.

The best 2020 Celtic signing?

Celtic have brought big names such as Shane Duffy to the club this year, also completing deals for experienced internationals such as Albian Ajeti and Vasilis Barkas.

However, it’s Turnbull who is so far proving to be the star signing.

The Scotland U21 international has been a fantastic addition to Lennon’s starting eleven of late.

If he can continue on his current path, there’s little doubt he’ll be a mainstay in the Celtic side, as predicted by the BBC’s punditry team.

His most stringent tests are to come, of course. It’ll be fascinating to see how he performs against Rangers at Ibrox next week.

If he comes through that examination with flying colours too, the hype is only going to increase.
