Celtic midfielder David Turnbull massively impressed Sportscene pundit Michael Stewart on Sunday against Kilmarnock.

The Scotland U21 international is a recent entrant into Neil Lennon’s starting elevens, also featuring against Lille last Thursday.

He’s added energy, vision and intelligent work rate into the middle of the park and has surely cemented his place in crucial upcoming matches this December.

Stewart has long been an admirer of Turnbull and again, yesterday, found plenty to enthuse about on BBC Sportscene.

Speaking on the show, the Celtic TV man said: “Everyone that knows anything about football knows recognises that the guy’s a class act.

“He’s only just got into the team but he shows great composure, he never panics. When he picks up the ball he’s got really good awareness about him. He knows what is around him. He is never one-dimensional, he’s always turning.

“When he’s in and around the edge of the box he’s always looking to get strikes off and invariably he hits the target and makes the goalkeeper work.

“David Turnbull has injected life into the team. He’s vital to Celtic at this moment in time.”

The former Motherwell man has certainly made an impression.

He’s also provided a bit of excitement and hope for supporters who have endured poor Celtic form over the last couple of months.

Finally, we have a player who looks in equal parts skilful and direct on the ball in the opposition half.

That’s the kind of attacking ambition we’ll need from the midfield moving forward and hopefully Stewart is right in his assessment that he’ll be keeping his place in Neil Lennon’s starting lineups.

His set-piece delivery alone is worth a spot, as has been apparent over the last week.

In other news, the Celtic manager has found his January transfer priority if the board release funds.
