Moment of brute strength shows that Celtic’s Klimala can succeed in Scotland

All the talk after Celtic’s recent 2-0 win over St Johnstone was mostly about Leigh Griffiths. That was understandable. After all, it was his first game back since March, and he scored the all important opening goal for the Hoops in the 90th minute.

However, the second goal Celtic scored on the day is perhaps even more worthy of discussion that Griffiths’ goal. It was scored in injury time by Patryk Klimala, making it his third goal for the Hoops.

It was the nature of the goal that makes it worth discussing though. Klimala took a pass from Shane Duffy just outside the penalty box, and was met with a crunching challenge after a quick run with the ball.

Picked himself up after crunching challenge

However, he quickly picked himself up, carried on with the ball and smashed it into the net, for what has to be his most impressive moment yet in a Celtic jersey.

That one moment alone shows that Klimala has a future with Celtic, and can be a success in Scotland. Scottish football isn’t the most refined game. A lot of it is about strength and determination. Being able to beat your opponent through sheer willpower.

Klimala displayed all of that in his goal. It could have been easy for him just to stay down after the challenge he faced, which was a bad one. However, Klimala wasn’t in the mood for that. He was determined to score a goal, and that is what he did.

Manager would have been very impressed

You can bet that Neil Lennon was impressed with the goal. That goal is a prime example of why Lennon paid the money for the player in the first place. It shows why Klimala has been getting first-team opportunities on a regular basis for most of the season.

With Odsonne Edouard and Albian Ajeti both doubts, you have to think that Klimala will be involved at some stage of next Saturday’s Glasgow derby.

After that goal against St Johnstone, there should be no concern about involving him at any stage of the game.

In other news, Celtic tried to sign John McGinn when he was just eight years old.
