‘Football can be so cruel’ is the verdict of Motherwell Football Club this Monday evening as they reflect on a weekend of so close, yet so far up against champions Celtic.

The Bhoys played the role of heartbreakers on Saturday, first scoring in the 87th minute to take a 1-0 lead, then dramatically netting a winner with the last kick of the ball thanks to Matt O’Riley. The Danish midfielder’s effort came after Motherwell thought they had stolen a point deep into injury time.

The scenes at Fir Park were joyous and wild. The Celtic coaching staff went ballistic, Brendan Rodgers was on the pitch and the Bhoys fans were a sea of elation.

Tonight, Motherwell uploaded footage of the events to their official YouTube channel. Coming from their perspective, you can see the desolation in the Steelmen camp as O’Riley’s winner goes in, and the jubilation on our side is shot brilliantly.

Motherwell can take credit from their performance and narrow defeats to both Celtic and Rangers over the last couple of weeks. Yes, they are annoyingly physical at times, but they are showing they can compete.

It’s understandable that they were gutted, but Celtic dominated possession and territory in the match. The Bhoys just about deserved all three points.

Callum McGregor and these players have found a way to win so many games late on over the last few seasons and it’s fantastic to see that trait continue.

Not only do victories like Saturday’s provide superb, dramatic moments in the stadium, but they are also great fun to look back on days, weeks and months later. This one won’t be forgotten in a hurry.

In other news, Celtic have golden chance to put immediate pressure on Steven Davis, Alex Rae and Rangers.
