Neil Lennon has revealed that James Forrest faces a battle to be fit for Sunday’s Glasgow derby. The Hoops interim boss disclosed that the Celtic winger is struggling with a muscle strain after returning from international duty.

“Jamesy has got a little bit of a muscle strain, but we’re hoping he’ll train Friday, Saturday” Lennon told Celtic TV, as sited by the Scottish Sun.

Cast doubt on participation

The fact that Lennon isn’t even sure that Forrest will be able to train must cast doubt on his participation in the match.

It would be a huge blow for the Hoops if Forrest was to miss out on the game. Despite not always shining against Rangers, he has had another excellent season for the Hoops. He has scored 15 goals and provided 19 assists so far this season.

Key part of the team

Lennon would be particularly annoyed if Forrest missed out. He has been a key part of his team since he became interim boss. He has even moved Forrest into the middle of the park on occasion, with varying degrees of success.

Should Forrest miss the game, the Hoops do at least have a natural replacement available. Oliver Burke is more than capable of starting on the wing for the Hoops. His directness and pace could cause Rangers plenty of problems.

However, all at Celtic will be hoping that Forrest makes the game, but we are unlikely to find out if he will until Sunday morning.
