Neil Lennon calls on Celtic fans to make difference versus Cluj

Celtic go into the upcoming Europa League match against Cluj on Thursday knowing that a win in the fixture would give the Hoops a good chance of making the last 32 of the competition.

With that in mind, manager Neil Lennon has called on the Hoops support to help the club over the line in the fixture against the Romanian champions.

“Get that sort of energy, and noise and roar from the stadium that we’ve had over the last 15, 20 years” he said, in an interview on Celtic’s Twitter account.

Lennon looked back to how the fans encouraged the team in his playing days for the Hoops.

“You ran that little bit quicker, you ran an extra yard, you felt stronger with that backing. I’m sure it’s no different for the current group of players.”

Whilst there is no doubt that the fans can play a part for the Hoops, the players on the night will have to perform well.

Team must perform far better than in last meeting

They will have to perform far better than they did when the Hoops took on Cluj in the Champions League qualifiers in August. On that night the fans backed the team to the hilt. That didn’t prevent the Hoops from losing 4-3 to Cluj.

Therefore, the Hoops players must be at their best on the night. It can’t all be down to the supporters to help the Hoops defeat Cluj.

The two elements must work together on the night. Should that happen, then it could be another memorable European night at Celtic Park for the Hoops.
