Neil Lennon has revealed why he has selected Jonny Hayes in recent weeks. Hayes had been a bit-part player for most of the season, but since Lennon became interim manager he has selected Hayes for some big games, including wins over Rangers and Aberdeen.

Now Lennon has given his reasons why.

“He gives us a different dimension to the way we play” he told the Herald.

“His quality is getting better”

He can play on both wings, like Jamesey Forrest, and that causes defences a lot of problems. I just feel his quality is getting better.”

Hayes turned in a great performance in the recent win over Aberdeen, so it is easy to see where Lennon is coming from.

Best game for the Hoops so far

He did switch wings early on with James Forrest against Aberdeen, and it paid off. Forrest opened the scoring for the Hoops with a great goal, whilst Hayes had probably his best game for the Hoops so far.

It seems likely that Hayes will keep his place in the Celtic side for Sunday’s game against Hibernian. There is also every chance that he could keep his place in the side until the Scottish Cup Final.

Of course, that will all depend on how well he plays. The likes of Scott Sinclair will be waiting in the wings to take his plays.

But judging from Lennon’s comments, the jersey looks to be Hayes’ for now.
