Neil Lennon faces Celtic striker conundrum ahead of two vital fixtures

Celtic boss Neil Lennon would have been hoping to have Leigh Griffiths back in the Hoops squad for the upcoming match against Hibs on Saturday.

However, it is not to be, as Griffiths is set to miss the game. Lennon told the Celtic Twitter account that not only does the player have a thigh injury, but he is now struggling with a virus.

That will be a blow to the player, as he has missed the last few games for the Hoops. It is an ever bigger blow for the team, as at the moment, Celtic only have two fit strikers – Odsonne Edouard and Vakoun Issouf Bayo.

That may give the Hoops boss a selection dilemma. The Hoops have two big games in the next week, firstly the trip to Easter Road and then the vital Europa League fixture against Cluj.

Lennon may have liked to have featured Griffiths at some stage of the Hibs game, but as that isn’t happening, it will be interesting to see which striker gets the nod to start against Hibs.

Normally you would think that it would be Edouard. He is the number one striker, and has been in excellent form all season.

However, with the Cluj match on the horizon, Lennon may select Bayo to start at Easter Road. Bayo has played well when he has been involved with the first-team this season.

He finally scored his first goal for the Hoops in the Betfred Cup match against Partick Thistle. Perhaps more importantly, Bayo is suspended for the game against Cluj.

Therefore, Lennon may decide to give the player the start, and leave Edouard on the bench. If need be, Edouard can make an appearance for the Hoops in the second-half.

That would be a good bit of management from Lennon, to show who the two main strikers at the club are.
