Neil Lennon may make some changes for Celtic’s match against Hearts on Sunday. With the second leg against AIK on the horizon, it would make sense to rest some players who featured in the first leg.
One player who may be rested is Odsonne Edouard. Some may think that is a mistake, as Edouard has been in such brilliant form for the Hoops recently.
However, the Hoops will need him not only for the AIK return leg, but for the Glasgow derby at Ibrox next Sunday.
Different forward should start game
The Hearts game is the least important of the three coming up. Therefore, the Hoops can afford to start another striker against the Tynecastle club.
Perhaps the Hoops boss will throw a curveball when it comes to the striker selected against Hearts. Most fans would imagine that Leigh Griffiths will get the nod to start.
He has been in decent form this season. However, perhaps Lennon will opt to give Vakoun Issouf Bayo what would be his first competitive start for the club.
It was Bayo and not Griffiths who came on as a second-half substitute against AIK in midweek. Bayo performed well in his cameo, and came close to scoring on the night.
Therefore, Bayo might get the nod to start the game. Bayo needs game time for the club. Since joining the Hoops in January, injuries have meant that he has rarely featured.
No need to sign another striker?
Another interesting factor to take into account is the transfer window. Should Bayo perform well against Hearts, it could mean that the club don’t need to sign another striker before the transfer window closes.
If Bayo doesn’t play well against Hearts, then Griffiths can come off the bench to replace him. However, Neil Lennon has not been afraid to give players a chance from time to time. Bayo is the latest player who should be given a chance by Lennon.
