Neil McCann names Celtic star who is ‘the constant’ under Brendan Rodgers after win vs St Johnstone

You are running out of adjectives to describe this Celtic team masterminded by Brendan Rodgers from the touchline and marshalled by Callum McGregor from the middle of the park.

Days before Celtic’s showdown against Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League, the team put on a first-class display by scoring six goals against St Johnstone in Perth on Saturday evening.

Not only did the Bhoys score three goals in each half, but they are yet to concede a goal in six Premiership matches and already have a +20 goal difference to their name.

Amazingly enough, Aberdeen are somehow keeping in touch with Celtic because they have also won six from six after beating Dundee 2-1 on Saturday.

Rodgers has won the Treble before. Rodgers has gone unbeaten before. And you just sense that he is building something special again.

Kyogo Furuhashi netted a brace against St Johnstone to prove why he is starting games for Celtic ahead of Adam Idah, who netted from the bench.

Paulo Bernardo scored after returning to the XI. McGregor can’t stop scoring screamers, with Daizen Maeda also joining the goalscoring party.

There are so many top performers at Celtic right now, but Neil McCann made it clear that there is one ‘constant’ amongst this group.

He put forward the name of McGregor and how well he ‘orchestrates so much’ from the middle of the park, but he has also changed his style to ‘complement’ what is around him, as he told Sportscene Premiership Highlights.

Callum McGregor is the main guy for Celtic

“He is (enjoying a few early goals this season),” responded McCann about McGregor. “He’s complemented some of the midfielders there. You see Engles taking the corner there (before McGregor’s goal), but he is complementing them with a different style now.

“He is the constant. He is the leader. He is scoring goals. He wears that armband and just orchestrates so much. He sees a little gap there. That is just a sensational Celtic team.”

Callum McGregor can’t stop scoring

That’s four goals the Celtic skipper has to his name this season and they have all been beauties.

What’s crazy is that McGregor only scored two Premiership goals last season, yet he has already managed to double that tally.

McGregor is a leader with the ball and in the dressing room because he never stops, no matter what the situation is and what type of pressure you put him under.

Fans can’t wait for the Dortmund trip and another positive to take out of it is the fact that McGregor has retired from Scotland duty, so he will be resting by the end of next week.
