One of the most pleasing aspects for Celtic boss Neil Lennon in the Hoops’ 2-1 win over Sarajevo on Wednesday night was the partnership of Odsonne Edouard and Ryan Christie.
The duo combined well throughout the game, particularly for Celtic’s opening goal. Edouard’s pass to Christie set up the midfielder, who rammed the ball into the back of the net.
Christie hasn’t been playing as a striker, but has been playing in the ‘number 10’ role, supporting Edouard up the pitch.
Both players have thrived
So far, the move has paid off, as both players have looked very dangerous in the early part of the season. It would make sense for Celtic to continue with this formation for the time being, especially in Europe.
It could work a treat, especially away from home. Christie in particular looks like he could thrive under the management of Neil Lennon.
Could score 20 goals this season
If he can manage to say fit, he could well be on the road to scoring 20 goals this season. That would be a superb return for a player who is not a striker.
As for Edouard, he has also started off the season in top form. It is not out of the question to expect at least 20 goals from him this season. How knows, perhaps he may even reach the 30 goal barrier for the Hoops.
As the Hoops’ Champions League qualifying campaign continues, this duo will become even more important for the Hoops. Thankfully, they look to be relishing the opportunity.
