Odsonne Edouard’s brace against Motherwell has certainly gone a long way to getting fans back onside.
After the 1-0 loss to Valencia, it was clear to see on social media that a certain element of the support weren’t happy. Despite not having any form of service, the big striker still received some unfair pelters.
Body language – Edouard ? He doesn’t look interested almost lazy
— Manky Bianchi (@manky_bianchi) February 21, 2019
Might be being very harsh but Edouard doesn’t really have a spark in him nor does he look like he can bring something out of nothing. Too lazy and often looks disinterested. For £9m he’s got to be offering more and proving why we paid that much for him.

Indeed, there was a perception that Edouard was lazy. He doesn’t do a lot of tracking back, and his casual jogging around the pitch can certainly get certain supporters wound up.
Yet, today against Motherwell he showed his true class. A stunning free-kick followed a bullet header from Ewan Henderson’s cross. It as a fantastic brace for the big Frenchman, and he’s suddenly winning over supporters’ hearts again.
Reacting to his performance on Twitter, many supporters weren’t shy in praising Celtic’s most expensive ever signing.

Edouard is clearly the best striker in the league

Poor sportsmanship form Motherwell, but we got on with it overall good performance, thought bitton strolled it, not a bad player on the park, edouard getting back to his best didn’t think he had that free kick in his locker, good performance from the bhoys, onto hard game on wed

Please can this put an end to some of the Edouard doubters. The lad is different class!

Edouard could score a last minute winner in the World Cup final and still just walk around with a cheeky smile on his face

Some of the close control turns to beat 1 or 2 men by Edouard were such a joy to watch..and then we had the free kick..he knew as soon as he struck it

French Eddy played like a man possessed after it went to 2-1. Like the look of him and Burke together.

French Eddy served justice, disappointed in how Motherwell scored but class prevails 🍀

A man on a mission
Edouard certainly looked like he was out to prove himself this afternoon. The big Frenchman bullied the Motherwell defence around all day and showed a tremendous touch of class to get his two goals.
Goals change everything and not least supporters’ perceptions of player performances. When Edouard scores, he’s the next big thing, but when he doesn’t he’s labelled as lazy.
His last goal came in the 4-3 Boxing Day win up at Aberdeen back in December. That day saw the Frenchman produce a wonder-goal, but injuries and a lack of starts have seen him struggle for consistency.
But make no mistake, when Edouard turns up, he’s unplayable in Scotland. By far the best and most efficient striker in the league, the Frenchman remains a hero when he produces magic like today.
Now, it looks like supporters are all back onside once again. Many never left him, but the murmurs of discontent were clear after recent performances.
But after today? Not many will be left doubting Edouard’s quality.
