Alistair Johnston is shining bright at the 2026 World Cup.
Even though it was a frustrating campaign for the Celtic defender because he was injured for most of the season, he returned in time for the post-split fixtures and helped guide the team to a domestic double.
Now, Johnston is impressing for Canada at this summer’s World Cup, including playing a key role as Jesse March’s side thrashed nine-man Qatar 6-0 to book their tickets to the knockout rounds.
FIFA are providing every bit of tactical detail for each game that is played, including in-game analysis of how each player performs, and it’s fair to say that Johnston is making an impression.

Not bad from Alistair Johnston at the World Cup… 🔥

Alistair Johnston’s incredible stats as Canada thrash Qatar at the World Cup
This isn’t the norm for Canada. This win over Qatar was their first victory on the World Cup stage, so it makes what Johnston is doing even more impressive.
Johnston has been consistent for Celtic ever since he signed from CF Montréal in 2022, and that doesn’t change when he puts on the colours of his country.
According to FIFA’s report, the right-back attempted 20 line-breaking passes and completed them all; only two other players attempted more.
Added to that, nobody attempted more crosses during the game, with Johnston showcasing his variety because they consisted of five outswingers, two driven, four lofted, one cutback, and three fast-paced crosses.
Plus, just like Daizen Maeda for Japan, Johnston isn’t afraid to ask for the ball because he did so on 90 occasions against Qatar; the next best was Stephen Eustáquio with 72.
