Oliver Burke must return to starting line-up for Glasgow derby clash

The omission of Oliver Burke from the Celtic side to play Dundee on Sunday was a bit of a shock. Burke has started every game of Neil Lennon’s time as interim boss until then.

However, the player didn’t even get off the substitute bench during the game, which was settled by Odsonne Edouard’s late goal.

A mystery

As the Hoops struggled to impose themselves on the game, Burke’s lack of game time was a mystery. His pace would have caused Dundee all kinds of issues.

Neil Lennon might not admit it, but he made a mistake omitting Burke from the team to play Dundee. It is a mistake he cannot repeat when Celtic return to action after the international break.

The Hoops take on Rangers in their first game back after the break, knowing that a win will all but clinch the league title.

Pick the strongest team

Therefore, Lennon should pick his strongest team for the game. That must include Burke. Burke is naturally a winger. However, should the Hoops boss want to play him through the middle that could work.

He did this against Hibernian, and it could be more successful than when Mikey Johnston played in the role against Dundee.

Burke playing just off or behind Odsonne Edouard could work a treat against Rangers. It is a selection choice Lennon must make against the Hoops’ bitter rivals.
