Celtic fans name their man of the match against St Mirren

It was a close call between Anthony Ralston and Daizen Maeda in the polls but it was the latter who edged the vote.

Maeda received 32.11 per cent of the votes in comparison to Ralston, who got 30.06 per cent.

The forward opened the scoring after closing down Ryan Mullen’s attempted clearance in the first minute and pressed intensely from the front.

It was a joy to watch, and the TalkingPoints users were very complimentary of his display.

One user said: “Maeda because he never stopped running no matter what and that’s what we all expect from every player right now.”

Another commented: “He was outstanding. From the 1st minute he never stopped moving. More like Maeda of last season.”

A fourth said: “It’s a hard pick between Maeda and Ralston. Honourable mentions to Kelechi and Forrest.”

This supporter wrote: “Maeda makes a difference to Celtic with his running off the ball.”

Winning a trophy would be the perfect farewell for Daizen Maeda

Maeda has frustrated many this season, especially after how well he performed in the previous year and there is a level of resignation among the fanbase that this is his last year at the club.

Right now, Celtic have the chance to win a domestic double, and the Japan international could sign off his time in Glasgow perfectly by winning another Scottish Premiership and Scottish Cup title.

That would cement his status as a cult hero, and allow him to depart with everyone’s blessing.
