Former Celtic goalkeeper Pat Bonner was left impressed with what he witnessed at Celtic Park today as the Bhoys comfortably took care of business against Kilmarnock.
Jota opened the scoring just before half-time after latching on to Daizen Maeda’s low cross. It was Alexandro Bernabei who set up the chance with a lovely through ball to the Japanese winger.
Then, in the second half, Reo Hatate forced an own goal from Ash Taylor with a class first time pass into the box that looked to capitalise on Kyogo Furuhashi’s clever movement.

Celtic had chance after chance from that point on with the two-goal deficit ultimately flattering Derek McInnes’ side.
Bonner enthused about the display after the final whistle, telling BBC Radio Scotland [17:17]: “Postecoglou says all the right things, doesn’t he? His observation of the game was spot on. The first half was tricky – I thought Kilmarnock were actually very, very organised defensively.
“In the second half, Celtic upped the tempo. When you have the changes they can make from the bench, it almost increased the performance. It almost kicked them on again. The chances they made – they probably could have scored about 10 goals in this game.
“They hit the post, the crossbar and the goalkeeper had some fantastic saves to keep Kilmarnock in the game.
“It was a really, really good second-half performance from Celtic and I think Postecoglou will be delighted with that. They’re 12 points ahead now. Points and performances, that’s what he’s looking for at the moment. He’s a happy man at the moment.”
Kilmarnock undoubtedly could have been on the end of a much heavier defeat. Giorgos Giakoumakis in particular caused problems when he came off the bench but Liel Abada also looked dangerous.
The depth Celtic have is incredible when it comes to the Scottish Premiership and it bodes well for our trophy push over the next three months.
The Bhoys play in three different competitions over the next three weeks as a Hampden semi-final comes into view, as well as a Scottish Cup fixture against Greenock Morton.
We look in strong shape to make a treble bid and with fewer mid-week matches, the team hopefully stays fresh, fit and on form.
