In the chaotic, nerve-shredding theatre of Celtic’s penalty shootout win at Ibrox, fans may have missed how Rangers’ social media account hilariously reported on the game.

Football clubs across the globe rely on the trusty green checkmark (✅) and red cross (❌) to keep breathless fans updated as the drama unfolds during shootouts.

But over the weekend, as Celtic secured their Scottish Cup quarter-final victory, the official Rangers social media account opted against that norm, and instead, used blue ticks, which caught the eye of a few supporters.

You can pick any Celtic player from history to take a penalty to win a game…

Who do you pick and why?

How Rangers’ social media account reacted to Celtic’s penalty shootout victory at Ibrox

As the Hoops stepped up to the spot to crush Rangers’ domestic dreams, the home side’s social media admin seemingly developed a sudden, severe allergy to the colour green.

While Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Auston Trusty, Reo Hatate and Tomas Cvancara ice-coldly buried their high-pressure spot-kicks past Jack Butland, the Rangers feed absolutely refused to give Celtic their rightful green ticks.

Instead of the standard, universally accepted emoji format, followers were treated to a masterclass in social media sulking.

And this wasn’t lost on a few Celtic supporters on social media.

Let’s be honest, given the performance Celtic put in during the 120 minutes, with only one shot on goal, the reaction would have been very different had the Hoops lost.

But given that they showcased the mental toughness to come through another big game, you can look back on these small matters and bring them up just for a laugh.
