‘Really superb…’ Pat Bonner wowed by Celtic duo after 1-0 win over Aberdeen

Another game chalked off for Celtic.

The gruelling winter period has kicked in, but Brendan Rodgers and his players aren’t showing any signs of stopping during one of the most important periods of the season.

On Wednesday night, Celtic beat Aberdeen 1-0 to move seven points clear at the top of the Premiership table and with a game in hand.

The rest of Scotland should fear the champions because, by the time it’s the New Year, this could well be beyond a double-figure points lead.

Not only are Celtic clear of Aberdeen, but they are also 11 points clear of third-placed Rangers, who are now fighting for that second spot with their rivals.

Time and time again, Rodgers’ side have proved to grind out that result or produce that magic moment when things aren’t going right.

And Pat Bonner highlighted two Celtic players who helped do that in difficult conditions at Pittodrie.

Pat Bonner impressed by Greg Taylor’s assist as Celtic beat Aberdeen

Greg Taylor didn’t start against Aberdeen, but was brought on at half-time, for on-loan Barcelona star Alex Valle, who was on a booking.

Just like the weekend, when Taylor was also benched, he didn’t allow that to affect him and produced a brilliant dinked pass that was finished home by Reo Hatate.

Pat Bonner lauded Taylor for his ‘lovely little ball’ for Hatate and the manner in which he went about it, as he told The Scottish Football Podcast.

“It only took one goal and that’s what they got,” said Bonner. “Reo Hatate, great finish, a lovely little ball played over the top from Greg Taylor, playing that inverted fullback position, almost in the middle of the pitch.

“That then allowed Hatate to make his run forward and beyond the defence.”

‘Really superb’ Cameron Carter-Vickers against Aberdeen

From Celtic singing in the forward areas to remaining as solid as ever at the back.

Not only are the champions unbeaten on the domestic scene, but only four goals have been conceded during that time.

Bonner wanted to give his flowers to Cameron Carter-Vickers and how he was ‘really superb’ during the 90 minutes against Aberdeen.

“At the back, I thought Carter-Vickers, any time that Aberdeen looked as if they were going on to slip one through or break,” added Bonner.

“He read it. He slid in. He won a couple of very, very decisive tackles. Just over the halfway line, just over the arch, in their area where you could be a real danger if you don’t make those tackles. I thought he was really superb at the back. That tells you that Aberdeen did have opportunities in this game.”
