What to make of Ryan Christie after his performance for Celtic v St Johnstone? Well, the attacker summed up his topsy-turvy season.

First of all, let’s address the good parts.

His contributions for both Odsonne Edouard goals in Perth were exquisite.

The first, a fine advance on the ball and cross for the Frenchman, helped us equalise the match.

Then, his quality dummy tricked the Saints defence and allowed Edouard to bag a double.

No doubt he has that kind of class in his locker. This season, unfortunately, we haven’t seen it enough.

The bad parts of his game were again issues today – poor set-pieces, poor decision-making and poor shots on the opposition goal.

Heading into today’s match, nobody had taken more shots outside of the box in the Scottish Premiership this season. He’d taken 44 from that range, 13 more than the next man in the list [WhoScored].

Given he’s scored just four Premiership goals, none of which came from shots outside the box, you wouldn’t say it’s been the best use of his, or Celtic’s, time.

Is it direction from the coaching staff? Is it Christie going into business for himself? Either way, it has to change. Too often we waste possession with a dire effort from long range.

Ultimate his key goal contributions shone through today, but he still has frustrating aspects to hammer out of his game.

We need more of the brilliance he’s capable of.
