There is no doubt about how was man of the match in Scotland’s already legendary win over Serbia in the Euro 2020 play-off – Celtic’s Ryan Christie.
Christie scored Scotland’s goal in the 1-1 draw, and was full of running for the national team. Indeed, he came close to scoring a second goal which would have spared the agonies of extra time and the penalty shoot-out.
It was noticeable that as soon as Christie was substituted Scotland lost control of the middle of the park. If he had been kept on Scotland would most likely have eased to victory.
Whilst naturally we are all delighted for Christie for his Scotland display, it should not be forgotten that this is a Celtic website, and the midfielder’s performance in the game can only benefit Celtic going forward.
Can take huge confidence from performance
He can take a huge amount of confidence from the performance. He controlled the game, and it was similar to how well he played when he first broke into the Celtic team, where he buzzed around the middle of the park to great effect, scoring plenty of goals in the process.
Christie has actually played quite well for Celtic this season, especially when you consider that the Hoops haven’t been at our best for much of the season.
Still, if Christie can perform as well as he did for Scotland for the Hoops during the next run of crucial games, then that can only benefit Celtic in the quest for 10 in a row.
Not only will Christie’s goal for Scotland be remembered in years to come, but so will his post-match interview after Scotland clinched their place in Euro 2020.
The player was highly emotional throughout the interview, and seemed to be on the verge of tears as the magnitude of Scotland’s triumph kicked in.
Interview was highly emotional
Some Celtic fans on social media gave their reaction to the interview, with one fan claiming that she wanted to cuddle Christie after watching it!
Here are some of the best reactions from Twitter to Christie’s interview:
