Scott Sinclair reportedly has his future up in the air at Celtic

Scott Sinclair is reportedly sweating over his future heading into what will be a big summer for him.

The Hoops have the option to trigger a further year in his contract. But, according to the Scottish Sun, Peter Lawwell hasn’t yet gotten back to Sinclair about what’s happening.

When he signed for the club, the deal was seemingly a three-year one with an option for a fourth. Considering those three years will be up at the end of the season, he could be another for the off.

Neil Lennon is apparently a big fan of Sinclair. But he’s only the interim manager, and his agreement with the Hoops runs out at the end of the season.

Sinclair already has 17 goals to his name this season. In terms of stats, he’s improved from his shambolic early-season form, but is it enough to warrant staying at Parkhead?

Sinclair simply not good enough

You would hope that Lennon would have more exciting summer targets for the left-flank, if he does indeed get the job.

Sinclair’s performance levels have been far too low for far too long. He may have scored eight goals since returning from the winter break, but the stats don’t tell the whole story.

Easter Road on Sunday was a prime example. Every attack continuously broke down when Sinclair got on the ball. He failed to win any of his one-v-one duels with Hibs right-back David Gray either.

Sinclair these days seems to have such poor balance on the ball, and never looks in control. It doesn’t take much to brush him off of the ball either, and all of this is adding up.

If the decision is down to Lennon or Lawwell, surely they’ve seen enough of Sinclair by now. It’s evident he likely won’t find that Player of the Year form of 2017, as he continues to put some consistency together.

According to the Sun, Sinclair is also one of Celtic’s biggest earners. Is it fair to say he justifies that when so many others outperform him?

If there’s a decision to be made in the summer, Celtic should thank Sinky and see him out. He just isn’t the player he once was.
