Celtic captain Scott Brown wound up Alfredo Morelos too tightly, then hinted it was all part of the plan on social media.

The Hoops’ on-field leader produced a performance of the highest calibre yesterday. Brown seemed to make it a primary goal to test Rangers’ discipline throughout. He was attacked at different stages of the contest by Alfredo Morelos, Ryan Kent, and Andy Halliday.

In all fairness to Bobby Madden, he sent Morelos and Halliday off. Kent, however, got away with a clear punch at the Celtic captain.

But Brown certainly didn’t seem too disappointed. With Celtic winning the game 2-1, the midfield supremo took to Instagram after the game to post a brilliant social media update.

The image captures the Celtic captain laughing at Morelos as he walks off the pitch. It’s captioned with fishing emojis and four-leaf clovers. This proves that the Hoops captain tried to get under the Rangers players’ skins, and it worked tenfold.

The post also contains a series of different photos of Brown standing victorious in the derby.

Revenge has been sealed

It’s fair to say that Brown took plenty of pelters after the 1-0 defeat at Ibrox back in December. The image of Scott Arfield doing Brown’s own celebration in front of him was the key image to come out of the game.

But it’s fair to say yesterday that the Hoops captain got his revenge. He had the likes of Arfield and Ryan Jack in his back pocket. Neither Rangers man made much of an impact at all on proceedings.

As well as winding up Rangers players, Brown was always composed on the ball. Even after the Rangers equaliser and when Celtic went down to 10 men, he was keeping things structured and demanding some composure from the players. He’s a captain in every sense of the word.

That was as big a win for Brown as it was for Neil Lennon. He needed that one, and the class he showed throughout the contest was incredibly impressive.

Next up is St Mirren on Wednesday night, and Brown will be full of life in that one too. Eight-in-a-row beckons, and it’s subsequently in large part down to our on-field leader.
