Neil Lennon’s comments that Leigh Griffiths will miss the Europa League clash against Cluj have come at a bad time.
With Vakoun Issouf Bayo suspended, Odsonne Edouard is the only striker Celtic have available for the fixture.
However, the striking crisis could give an opportunity to a player who has only just retuned to the Celtic fold – Scott Sinclair.
Manager still has faith in player
The Hoops attacker made his return to the league for the first time since August with a late cameo in the 1-1 draw with Hibs. The fact that Neil Lennon entrusted the player to try to win the game for the Hoops shows that he still has faith in the player Manchester City once spent £8 million on.
It is Sinclair’s record at Celtic that should make him an option to take on Cluj. In just over three seasons with the side, he has scored 62 goals. This season alone he as managed to find the back of the net on two occasions.
Statistics are too good to be ignored
Those statistics are too good to be ignored. Therefore, Sinclair should once more be on the Celtic bench to face Cluj. Neil Lennon should have no hesitation about getting him on the pitch if the Hoops are in need of a goal.
Will Scott Sinclair ever be a Celtic mainstay under Neil Lennon? That seems unlikely. But there is no doubt that given the chance, he could contribute for the Hoops as long as he is a Celtic player.
That chance could come against Cluj. Should Sinclair come on and score a late winner, it could make a big difference to his prospects for this season. He could even get a sustained run of games in the team should it happen.
Celtic may need a winning goal from off the bench against Cluj. Of the players available, few are as good at goal scoring as Sinclair. He may yet have a role to play this season.
