Scott Sinclair criticised by sections of the Celtic support after Kilmarnock win

Scott Sinclair’s inclusion in the starting XI at Celtic Park yesterday was a surprise to say the least.

The Englishman had previously failed to make the starting line-up in any of the last four games. His last start came in the 1-0 win over Dundee.

Sinclair has noticeably lost pretty much the majority of his attributes at Parkhead. No longer is he beating his men down the left, with his control, passing, and shooting traits all extremely questionable.

In the last Premiership match before Kilmarnock against Hibs, Sinclair made a late cameo. He was totally ineffective as he failed to do anything on the ball. This followed a 15-minute cameo against Aberdeen in the Scottish Cup semi-finals, with Sinclair taking far too long to control the ball consistently against nine men.

But he still managed to make the starting XI yesterday incredibly. Speaking on social media, here’s a look at the fans’ reaction to the former Aston Villa’s star’s performance.

New contract? That would be a bad joke

Talks of a new contract haven’t been doing the rounds for some time. Hopefully, this means that Celtic aren’t going to offer Sinclair one, as he quite simply doesn’t deserve it.

The Englishman has gotten progressively worse since his first season at Parkhead. People may point to his 17 goals in 51 games from the left this term. But the truth is, a lot more breaks down with Sinclair than actually goes through him.

Against Kilmarnock, he was hiding. That’s something of a regular occurrence these days with Sinclair. Not once did he pose Stephen O’Donnell any real problems down the left. He had one notable strike, but it’s probably on the moon by now after cutting inside and sending it nowhere near Daniel Bachmann’s goal.

Maryan Shved’s arrival this summer most likely looks like competition for James Forrest. The likes of Jonny Hayes, Lewis Morgan, and Mikey Johnston look like being Sinclair’s main competitors next term if he stays.

But, in all honesty, it’s an area Celtic must improve in and should’ve done so last January. Sinclair hasn’t offered enough all season and is now a shade of his former self.
