Should Celtic make derby changes Ewan Henderson could start

Celtic interim manager Neil Lennon has some decisions to make regarding his team selection for Sunday’s trip to Ibrox to take on Rangers.

The Hoops boss has to find a balance between giving players a break, and wanting to win at the home of Celtic’s most bitter rivals.

Meaningless in grand scheme of things

It could well be the case that the Hoops boss makes changes for the game. It is meaningless in the grand scheme of things.

The Scottish Cup Final in a fortnight’s time is more important. Therefore, some players may come in from the cold, with a chance to impress at Ibrox.

One player who should come under consideration for a start is midfielder Ewan Henderson.

Henderson made his breakthrough into the Hoops first-team this season, making five appearances.

Young players have featured at Ibrox

The Hoops have not been afraid to throw young players into the side at Ibrox before. Shaun Maloney made his breakthrough in a memorable 3-0 win in 2001.

Mikey Johnston played in the 1-0 loss earlier this season. Neil Lennon may like to have Henderson follow in their footsteps.

At teams like Celtic, you don’t know if a young player will make the grade unless they play games. The Glasgow derby may well be the ideal match for Henderson to show that he has the ability to succeed with Celtic.

If he has a poor game, time is on his side to make up for it. Should he have a memorable match, his future at the club will be very bright.
