Some Celtic supporters weren’t at all happy with the level of performance from Boli Bolingoli on Sunday, despite the Hoops winning 2-0 at home to Hibernian in the Scottish Premiership.

The defender was starting his first home match since October’s win over Lazio after spending a period of time out of the team because of injury.

However, he did retain his place in the side from last Thursday night’s defeat to Cluj in Romania.

Deployed in something of a left-wing-back role, he couldn’t quite have as big an impact in the opposition half as he would’ve liked and was a bit slack in possession compared to the high standards set by others in the team.

Too harsh to criticise?

It must be remembered that Bolingoli’s initial spell at Celtic took a while to get up to full gear. When lacking match fitness at the start of the season there were serious question marks about his readiness to play regularly for the Hoops.

It could be that he simply needs more games and minutes in his leg to get back to that level again. Just before his injury, he was playing at a good enough standard that you’d consider him the first pick on the left side of the defensive line.

However, it’s undeniable he isn’t looking quite like that at the moment and perhaps it’d be best for Neil Lennon to go with another option like Greg Taylor for the upcoming visit to Tynecastle.

These Celtic fans certainly weren’t impressed with him yesterday, taking to Twitter to share their thoughts…
