Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths found himself back in amongst the goals for the Hoops on Saturday evening, helping Neil Lennon’s side progress in the Scottish Cup with a 2-1 victory over Partick Thistle.

His close-range finish early in the match sent us on our way to victory in a tie we never looked like losing.

He looked absolutely delighted to be on the scoresheet and rightly so.

The striker’s last goal for the club heading into the Firhill clash had come way back in August against Motherwell, with fitness issues and form keeping him out of Lennon’s starting eleven for the most part.

Given the opportunity to play Odsonne Edouard, Griffiths took his chance with aplomb and he now has a great chance of playing more during a heavy upcoming schedule of fixtures.

The arrival of Patryk Klimala had raised question marks about his immediate and long-term future at Celtic Park but, for now, it appears he is going absolutely nowhere.

If Lennon and his staff can keep the player at peak fitness and feeling confident, he could prove to be a crucial weapon in our upcoming chase for trophies.
