Some Celtic fans hope for more Elyounoussi appearances after vital goal

Celtic’s 1-0 win over Riga in the Europa League on Thursday night wasn’t the Hoops best performance of the season. However, it was lit up by a moment of quality from attacker Mohamed Elyounoussi.

The Hoops attacker got on the end of a Jeremie Frimpong cross and swept the ball into the back of the net in injury time.

The goal was a rare piece of good play in a game that was sadly lacking moments of quality. Still, Celtic managed to book their place in the play-off of the Europa League, and that was the most important thing about the victory.

Re-emergence could be by-product of victory

However, the re-emergence of Frimpong could end up as the major by-product of the win. The player has been stuck on the bench most recently, with his appearances limited.

However, that moment of quality could lead to more playing time for the Norwegian. Some Celtic fans on social media certainly hope that is the case.

They took to Twitter after the game to state their case that Elyounoussi should feature far more often than he has been recently for Celtic.

“Quality player”

One fan claimed that the player was a ‘quality player’. Another stated that he was ‘a class above everyone in the squad bar French Eddy’ – a reference to Odsonne Edouard.

Ironically, it was Edouard who was replaced by Elyounoussi in the 82nd minute of the game. It will be interesting to see if Neil Lennon agrees with the fans who are calling for Elyounoussi to return to the side.

Perhaps it is about finding a role in the side for Elyounoussi. He can play in a number of attacking positions. That can be both a good thing and a bad thing.

However, at times Celtic play a lot better with Elyounoussi in the team, so the Hoops boss has plenty to think about.

Here are some of the best reactions from Twitter to Elyounoussi’s performance:

In other news, Neil Lennon has played down fears that Odsonne Edouard may be injured.
