Celtic’s 3-1 Europa League victory over Rennes will go down as a great night for the club. The Hoops clinched top spot in Group E with the victory, and will be seeded for next month’s last 32 draw.
The game featured a host of good performances from Celtic players, and it also saw Mikey Johnston make his long-awaited return from injury as a second-half substitute.
Made comeback from injury with fine goal

Injuries had kept Johnston out of the team since the start of September. However, he picked up where he left off before his injury with a fine goal.
He played a give and go with Olivier Ntcham, took the ball away from the defender and fired a shot into the corner of the net. It was probably the highlight of the game.
Celtic fans on social media were delighted with Johnston’s performance. One fan called him ‘exciting’, which is understandable after that cameo performance.
Here are some of the best reactions from social media to Johnston’s performance:

Johnston’s return to fitness has come at just the right time for the Hoops. Celtic are set to play nine games in December, and the squad will be stretched to the limit.
Will he start next league game?

Johnston might well feature in a number of those games. It will be interesting to see if he starts against Ross County on Sunday. He certainly played well enough against Rennes to suggest that he could start the game. However, Neil Lennon may err on the side of caution and keep him on the bench until the second-half.
If that is the case, then perhaps Johnston will return to the starting line-up when the Hoops take on Hamilton on Wednesday. Johnston’s performance against Rennes shows that he should feature in next weekend’s Betfred Cup Final. Perhaps the only question is does he start the game on the pitch or on the bench. That is a welcome problem Neil Lennon will have to solve.
