Some Celtic fans on social media were unimpressed with Mohamed Elyounoussi’s performance for the Hoops against Lazio in the Europa League.
The attacker, who is on loan from Southampton, had been in good form for the Hoops recently. He scored two goals in the recent 6-0 win over Ross County.
However, he found the going tough against Lazio, as the Hoops won 2-1. He was on the fringes of the game for the most part. He was also the first player to receive a yellow card as his frustrations got the better of him.
No surprise that player was substituted
It was no surprise that he was replaced by Tom Rogic in the second-half.
Celtic fans on social media were quick to show their dissatisfaction with the player’s performance.
One fan claimed that the player ‘offers nothing’. Meanwhile, another fan claimed that Scott Sinclair should star instead.

It will be disappointing for Celtic boss Neil Lennon that Elyounoussi didn’t stamp his authority on the game. He was excellent in the 2-0 win over Cluj in the previous Europa League group game.
Evident why player has struggled to hold down place
However, it just didn’t happen for him against a well-drilled Lazio defence. Performances like the one against Lazio could explain why the player was allowed to leave Southampton on loan.
That is despite the fact that Southampton paid £16 million for the player. It seems likely that the player will return to the Premier League side at the end of the season. Celtic probably won’t be able to afford the price tag that Southampton are looking for.
Hopefully he makes up for this poor performance before the end of the season.
