Celtic moved 16 points clear at the top of the Premiership thanks to a comfortable 5-0 win over St Mirren.

The Hoops were comfortable throughout the game, and took the lead after 18 minutes, when an Odsonne Edouard pass was swept home by Leigh Griffiths.

Game was won by half-time

Celtic came close to adding to the lead on a number of occasions before the second goal arrived on the stroke of half-time.

A one-two between Tom Rogic and Griffiths ended with the striker dinking the ball into the back of the net.

The third goal came early in the second-half, with Edouard scoring his 28th goal of the season.

Griffiths then completed his hat-trick in the second-half, with a fine finish. Callum McGregor scored the fifth from the penalty spot in injury time.

Neil Lennon would have been delighted with the straightforward nature of the win, especially as it comes only eight days before the Hoops face Rangers at Ibrox.

A win in that game would all but secure nine in a row for the Hoops, and Lennon will be delighted to have avoided any injuries in the match.

Two telling contributions in a row

One player he would have been pleased with in particular is Tom Rogic. Rogic has been in and out of the team this season, but for the second game in a row he made a telling contribution.

On Wednesday night he scored a late equaliser to rescue a point in the 2-2 draw with Livingston. On this occasion, a piece of wonderful interplay between Rogic and Griffiths led to the striker’s second goal for the Hoops, which all but clinched the three points for Celtic.

Rogic’s piece of skill and overall performance was hailed by some Celtic supporters on social media.

One fan hailed Rogic as a ‘magician’, whilst another described the Australian as a ‘great player’.
