Some Celtic fans split over goal conceded against Hibernian

Celtic conceded a goal in the opening stages of the game against Hibs at Easter Road when Christian Doidge’s cross was deflected into his own net by Kristoffer Ajer.

The goal could have been defended better overall by the Hoops, but it was good play by former Hoops midfielder Scott Allan to set up the goal.

Thankfully the Hoops managed to equalise thanks to Ryan Christie, as the game ended in a 1-1 draw.

Perhaps more interesting was the reaction from the Celtic support on social media to the goal. Fans were split as to if the own goal was a mistake by Ajer or not.

One fan claimed he was ‘caught out yet again’. On the contrary, another fan claimed that Ajer was ‘so unlucky’.

Here are some of the best reactions from social media to the own goal:

It will be interesting to hear when Neil Lennon thinks of the own goal. It is unlikely that he will criticise Ajer for the goal. These things happen in football.

Centre-back is one of the team’s most important players

Ajer is one of Celtic’s most important players. He has been a first choice defender for the team for almost the entirety of Neil Lennon’s time as Celtic boss.

He is part of a centre-back partnership with Christopher Jullien which looks set to be the backbone of the Celtic side for a long time to come.

Hopefully Ajer shrugs off this incident, and the player goes from strength to strength.
