Some Celtic fans were loving the skills of Mikey Johnston v Cluj

Some Celtic supporters were excited by the performance of Mikey Johnston against Cluj in our final Europa League group stage encounter tonight.

Having already qualified as group winners for the knockout stage, the match meant little to Celtic, so it was no surprise to see Neil Lennon name a much-rotated team for the encounter.

The performance wasn’t much to write home about, especially in the second half. After going into the interval 0-0, the home side would eventually show their desire to qualify with a 2-0 victory.

One bright spark for Celtic though was Johnston, whose attacking ambition and ability was on display for all to see.

That was especially true early in the match, with the player deployed in a number 10 creative position, flanked by Scott Sinclair and Lewis Morgan.

He had a constant desire to take opponents on and try to make something happen in the final third.

Unfortunately, his surrounding teammates couldn’t make much of that and the Romanians really had no trouble progressing to the Round of 32, where they’ll be an unseeded side but can’t draw us.

We’ll hopefully be back to our strongest team and vibrant best in the competition in February.

These fans enjoyed what they witnessed from Johnston, taking to Twitter this evening to share their thoughts…
