Former Celtic midfielder Stiliyan Petrov has backed his old team-mate Neil Lennon to be named as permanent Celtic manager.
Lennon is currently interim Hoops manager, and it is as yet unknown if he will take charge of the Hoops going forward.
However, Petrov has backed Lennon for the job as he is a ‘winner’, and also for the reason that he has done well to replace Brendan Rodgers.
“I played with Neil Lennon for a chunk of my career and the one thing you can say about him is that he is a winner” Petrov told the Herald.
“He sustained the club”
“I think you have to look at the way he took the job. He sustained the club when the season was in danger of collapsing.”
It is not surprising to see Lennon being tipped for the Hoops job by one of his former team-mates. And Lennon has done well in stabilising the club following the departure of Rodgers.
Performances haven’t been great
However, performances so far have left a lot to be desired. The Hoops have looked laboured at times.
The upcoming Scottish Cup semi-final could be pivotal for Lennon. Particularly in regard to his chances of getting the job on a permanent basis.
A win over the Dons would give Lennon credit going into the final few weeks of the season. Whilst a defeat could all but end his chances of being named as permanent manager.
