Close-up footage of Steven McLean at Dundee vs Celtic shows moments of the hosts’ incredulity at their red card.

On an afternoon to forget for Ryan Astley, the Dees defender was sent off for a last-man tackle on Hyunjun Yang.

Steven Pressley’s side were, however, given a penalty in the second half after a handball in the box by Colby Donovan.

New clips released show McLean in the process of giving said penalty after VAR review, as well as the incredulity of Dundee’s players after the sending off.

The clip, via The Fast Lovin’, Sin-Soaked Heathen on YouTube, firstly shows referee McLean reviewing the incident and returning to the pitch to give the penalty.

It later shows the Dundee players’ reaction to the red card.

It’s pretty hard to argue that this isn’t a cut-and-dry sending off for the Welsh defender, but his teammate’s reactions indicate otherwise.

Astley petulantly stands still, despite having been shown red by the referee. His teammates back him up, too.

Ethan Hamilton, wearing the captain’s armband after the withdrawal of Simon Murray, says everything with his absurd facial expressions.

Everton academy product Astley moved to Dens Park from Accrington Stanley two years ago, and has appeared in all but one of their league games under Pressley.

Alongside him in the Dundee defence is reported Celtic target Luke Graham, who is also reportedly drawing interest from Ibrox and the English Championship.

Celtic have signed a fair few players from Dundee in recent years, namely Luke McCowan, Jack Hendry and Scott Bain.

Easter Sunday’s game was off the back of three straight defeats in the City of Discovery for Celtic, each played under a different manager.

Steven Pressley’s Celtic admission after Dundee defeat

Reacting to the game, Dens Park boss Pressley told the Courier: “We didn’t open the game in the manner that we’d certainly hoped to,” Pressley admitted.

“The first 10-15 minutes, Celtic put us under a lot of pressure. We didn’t manage to get control of the game.

“I’ve said to the group in there that they make me exceptionally proud, because the way we want to play, you have to be brave.

“In our defending at times, we were super aggressive. We didn’t come into the game to sit in and absorb pressure.

“We came to try and impose ourselves on the game, and to do that, you’ve got to be brave in the way we go about it.

“With and without the ball, I think the players showed that bravery.”
