Sussex Cricket’s official social media post mocks Newcastle for odd reaction to Celtic defeat

It’s always great when Scottish and English sides meet on the football pitch, regardless of the competition.

Celtic have had their fair battles with English teams over the years, and whilst the latest meeting, against Newcastle United, was a pre-season friendly, it was still enjoyable, nonetheless.

It wasn’t what the doctor ordered for Eddie Howe, who was without star striker Alexander Isak amid transfer speculation, as Celtic put four goals past the Magpies, and continued to march forward ahead of the new season.

As always, if you are unable to watch the game, then you can get up-to-date coverage of what is happening on social media, and Newcastle’s use of graphics certainly got people talking.

How Newcastle United reacted to Celtic defeat on social media

At half-time, and when the final result came through, Newcastle put up graphics to display the result, but not in the usual way.

The majority of clubs would just use an image from the match, and then post the scoreline, such as ‘2-0’.

But for some strange reason, Newcastle posted ‘two nil’ and ‘four nil’, all of which were mocked by not only their supporters and rivals, but other sporting accounts on social media.

And then the jokes started flowing in…

From Newcastle fans, to Specsavers’ social media account and even Sussex Cricket’s social account, they all reacted to Newcastle’s interesting use of graphics.

This Newcastle fan stated, with nearly 10k likes: ‘Not sure what’s worse, the graphic or the scoreline.’

@agbnufc_ added: ‘You actually posted it.’

This Newcastle fan wasn’t happy at all: ‘These minimalistic graphics are an embarrassment. Surely you can come up with something more creative than this? As people have pointed out, it’s that’s “minimal” that it doesn’t even serve its purpose. If you’d missed the game and saw this, you’d be saying “4 nil to who??”.
