Celtic captain Callum McGregor has refused to get drawn into all the noise surrounding the rivalry between the Bhoys and Rangers this week, telling the media that his team will do their talking on the park.
There have been a lot of odd one-way comments coming the way of the champions over the last few weeks, none more so than Fashion Sakala’s insistence that his team are “so much better” than the league leaders.
But when all of that was put to McGregor, he made the situation perfectly clear. He won’t be talking about other clubs in the media.

In quotes distributed via a variety of newspaper outlets in Saturday’s print editions, the captain said: “I don’t pay much attention to it, to be honest. For us, we don’t want to comment on any other club or any other players. Is the message to do our talking on the pitch? Absolutely.
“I don’t like to talk about other clubs and other players. I already have enough to worry about with myself, my club and the team. It’s very much the same message for us — we pride ourselves on being humble. When we win, we are humble. And when we lose, we are humble. I believe that’s the right way to go. We are excited for the game and preparing as best as we can.
“When Sunday comes and we go over that white line, hopefully we can be successful. We are thinking solely about the game, how we prepare and how we approach the game in the best manner possible. Hopefully on Sunday, if we can do enough right, then we will have the trophy at the end.”
Callum McGregor gets it spot on ahead of Celtic vs Rangers
This is exactly what we want to hear from our captain and indeed any player at Celtic. The Bhoys’ relentlessness and quality has spoken for itself this season. There’s no need for them to buy into their own hype.
McGregor is leading his team into a tense and difficult situation tomorrow. The last thing we want is these players getting complacent or proclaiming how much better they are than the Ibrox outfit.
The final isn’t a guaranteed Celtic win, by any means. It’s with this kind of focus, however, that gives the Bhoys the best chance of victory.
