Celtic’s 4-0 victory over Raith Rovers in the Scottish Cup will go down in the books as routine.

It was a pleasing win of course but I doubt it’ll be 90 minutes many people remember for years to come. However, one player certainly will – Christopher Jullien.

The Frenchman made his long-awaited return from injury after smashing his knee against the woodwork in a match against Dundee United 14 months ago.

Surgery followed with a long rehabilitation period that wiped out his entire 2021.

Even in 2022, his progress has been perceived as slow going. Supporters have been eager to see him for weeks since the return from the winter break.

At one point it looked like his big chance would come earlier when Ange Postecoglou included him on the bench in a number of matches.

However, he stopped making matchday squads again recently, ramping up the anxiety about his return.

Fantastic then to see him actually come off the bench and play some football this afternoon.

The response it got from the Celtic Park supporters said it all. He got a huge ovation running onto the park and another cheer when he took his first touch.

Jullien will not regard this as the end of a journey, but the start of one. He now has it all to prove he can make it back into the first-team on a regular basis.

That will be difficult given the standards Postecoglou has set and the partnership that Carl Starfelt has stuck up with Cameron Carter-Vickers.

But now his injury held is behind him, the big man will be relishing the challenge.

In other news, Ange Postecoglou sends stern message to Celtic starters in post-match interview.
